Taurus Season : Branded

This is an ongoing series where I create a moodboard for the current sun season, combining my knowledge of astrology with graphic design as a creative exploration. If you have a lot of Taurus placements, feel free to use elements that resonate as a form of inspiration for your own brand. My end goal is to create moodboards for each sign as an artistic reference point.

Last summer, my little family of three traveled to Door County, Wisconsin for the first time, where an old neighbor of ours kindly offered up his mom’s cabin for us to use. I hadn’t seen pictures and had no idea what to expect, other than knowing that it had beach access. As we took a sharp turn onto her street, we immediately descended into a forest of cedar trees so thick and tall that the sunlight above us all but disappeared. Michael slowed down the car, rolled open the windows, and in the distance, we could hear the waves of Lake Michigan rolling onto shore.

Instantly, my body felt at peace.

At its highest expression, Taurus represents serenity of spirit. That feeling of being totally present in your body with a reverence for the beauty of being alive.

It didn’t matter that I was going through a challenging season of life or that my career was kinda sorta dying or that I hadn’t been sleeping well for over a year. This cabin was like a direct line into peace for me. I stepped out onto the deck and sighed.

Life is complicated but it is also so simple.

Those with strong Taurus placements in their chart get this. Are they always serene? No. But they are innately drawn towards it.

That said, our world feels a bit not so simple right now. Wars, fighting, fear … all of it. And so in this letter I ask you to tap into your own inroads towards serenity. Peace. Presence.

While I wish that I had 24/7 access to that cabin, I don’t. But I’ve learned that I can tap into that same feeling of serenity in other ways, with music being the easiest. Whether I’m having a post dinner dance party with my toddler or popping in earbuds on a walk around my neighborhood, the right song is a pretty reliable way for me to get back into my body.

For others, it could be a hike in the closest-to-you woods. An early wake up to watch the sunrise. A drive far enough away to see the stars. The enjoyment of a slow cooked meal. Or ice cream or a freshly baked, warm pastry. Maybe you lay in the grass or hug a tree or tend to your garden. Or pile the comfiest blankets on your bed.

Anything that uses your senses and connects you back into your body safely is perfect.

Now, there’s one important side road I want to go down as it directly relates to Taurus. So often in pop astrology you hear the words abundance and luxury and money in regards to this sign. And while they can easily express themselves here, it’s not the central focus. So let’s make it make sense. When Taurus feels safe and secure — when they have food, shelter, water, resources, and a skill or two to take care of themselves — that’s peace too. It’s the foundation that serenity is built upon.

So yeah, there is work here, too. And Taurus certainly has the staying power to build said foundation. But it’s all in the name of serenity of spirit. It’s actually become one of my favorite signs to re-learn about within the context of evolutionary astrology. One that asks “where are we going with this” rather than fixed personality traits.

You inspire me, Taurus. Thank you.

SO LET’S MAKE TAURUS VISUAL

While there are three Earth signs, Taurus is the earthiest of them all in my own subjective opinion. Ruled by Venus, it taps into the more physical manifestations of the planet: the appreciation of all things beautiful and alive for us to enjoy right here on Earth. Trees and bees and flowers and food. Rivers and lakes and stars and fruit. Taurus takes a look around and, at its best, says “what a gift it is to be here.”

And so naturally, I went hard on earthy imagery. You’ve got kitchens filled with natural wood and plants. Pebbles and water and landscapes galore. But you’ll also see pleasure. The enjoyment of food or the smell of fresh flowers. Picnics with friends. Cozy natural bedding. That feeling when you hug a tree and mean it.

For color, I went with greens and browns … no explanation needed.

And for type, my intuition first went towards classic serifs for their traditional nature. Taurus can be a bit “in the past” in some ways, stubborn to move on. This can be good or bad depending on the circumstance, but there is truly nothing wrong with a classic serif, so here it stays. A more modern take on this however is what I call a transitional serif. One that feels like a blend between a sans serif and serif, still with contrast, but without harsh end-caps. Lowercase is my heart’s first choice, but as long as the font isn’t too bold, I think all caps works just fine too.

Keep it simple. Keep it grounded. Keep it beautiful.

And that’s it for Taurus season! My midheaven is in Taurus, along with my Mars and Jupiter, so I’m no stranger to this particular energy. You see it constantly in my attunement towards simplicity, particularly in marketing, but also in life. I prioritize slow and that which is important to me. I remain steadfast and calm in the chaos of the world (even when I feel it deeply), standing firm in the choices I make when I make them. If you’re looking for an Aries type leader, that is one thousand percent not me. I’m your down to earth friend. ;)

How about you?
